Utah Championship celebrates 35 years
OGDEN, Utah — The Korn Ferry Tour’s Utah Championship, presented by Zions Bank and Intermountain Health, and hosted by the Utah Sports Commission, will celebrate its 35th anniversary at this year’s tournament, set for July 30 – August 2 at Ogden Golf & Country Club.
Originally launched in 1990 as part of the inaugural Ben Hogan Tour—now the Korn Ferry Tour—the tournament began as the Utah Classic before being renamed the Utah Championship in 2006. Over 35 years, it has grown into one of the Tour’s most enduring and recognizable stops, showcasing emerging talent on the path to the PGA TOUR while bringing championship golf to communities across the state.
“This tournament has built a legacy over 35 years that few events can match,” said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. “As one of the longest-running stops on PGA’s Korn Ferry Tour, the Utah Championship has consistently delivered memorable moments, produced world-class champions, and played a meaningful role in establishing Utah as The State of Sport.”
In 2020, the Utah Championship earned recognition as Korn Ferry Tour Tournament of the Year after becoming the first televised professional golf event in the world to return to play following the COVID-19 pause. The tournament’s impact extends beyond competition through its charitable legacy, with the Tony Finau Foundation—the tournament’s official charity partner since 2018—being named Korn Ferry Tour Charity of the Year in 2021.
Since its inception, the Utah Championship has been played annually, except for 1997 and 1998, and has traveled across Utah to expand access to the game and engage new audiences. Venues have included Riverside Country Club (1990-1996), Willow Creek Country Club (1999-2014), Thanksgiving Point Golf Club (2015-2016), Oakridge Country Club (2017-2024), and now Ogden Golf & Country Club, which became the tournament’s northernmost host site when it joined the rotation in 2025.
As the Utah Championship marks its 35th anniversary, the 2026 edition will continue its tradition of highlighting rising pros while celebrating its deep roots in Utah’s sports history.
