No. 1 Player to Watch: Michael Johnson

He was a star even before he turned professional, but his professional debut – the Barbasol Championship this summer – was the coronation for Michael Johnson.

The 23-year-old from Alabama earned a sponsor’s exemption into his hometown PGA TOUR event in July and he made the most of it, finishing solo third, just one shot back of a two-man playoff between Si Woo Kim and eventual winner Aaron Baddeley after a final-round 65.

Johnson, who owns Auburn’s single-season record with three wins (and sits second in Auburn history in terms of total wins during his time there), had a laundry list of accomplishments as a collegiate golfer, and the confidence from playing a full collegiate schedule (he was on the team for five years) will treat him well, as he’s now able to mix it up with so many of his contemporaries.
